Thanks to our generous supporters, Lelt Foundation had another incredible year! Here's a look back at some of our favorite moments from 2024, showcasing the resilient and vibrant communities we work for in Ethiopia.

Lelt remains dedicated to three core components of support: nutrition, education, and job creation. This year, we’ve expanded our impact to reach more people with disabilities and children from severely impoverished regions.

EDUCATION. Prioritizing education is central to breaking the cycle of poverty. Nearly 65% of our children receive full scholarships to private schools in the region, where they study in both English and their native language, Amharic.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES. Selam attributes her success as a professional photographer to the unwavering strength of her mother, Eta, and the support she received from the Lelt Foundation. Read more here.

CULTURE. On December 8th, Lelt's students celebrated Ethiopian Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples' Day, a national holiday honoring the country's rich diversity of ethnic groups.

NUTRITION. In Ethiopia, malnutrition contributes to 45% of child mortality under the age of five (UNICEF, 2022). Lelt's programs address this crisis by providing nutritious meals to our students, ensuring they stay healthy and focused on their education.

GIRLS & EDUCATION. In Lelt's region of Ethiopia, the school dropout rate among girls is alarmingly high, with over 50% of 12-year-old girls leaving school to work or marry early. Lelt’s programs keep children in school and empower them to pursue higher education.

HEALTH & WELLNESS. Meseret is celebrating that she is finally able to treat her son Henok's special needs! All families at Lelt's Suki Mariam community center received health insurance policies in 2024, giving them access to free medical care.

COMPUTER SCIENCES. Lelt's technology labs are transforming the lives of hundreds of young students. These solar-powered computer classrooms provide disadvantaged students with essential coding and programming skills. This sustainable technology infrastructure enables 24/7 accessibility in a region with an unreliable power grid. Read more here.

SUSTAINABILITY. College student Kalkidan Yirgalem has been a Lelt scholar for 13 years. Her mother, Elsabeth, is now a successful shop owner, thanks to Lelt's Business Creation Seminar. Through the program, Elsabeth gained essential business and financial management skills and received a micro-loan to launch her own business.

RESILIENCE. In July 2023, Asrat suffered a severe injury when he fell from a ladder at work, breaking his leg in multiple places. Without financial assistance or workplace compensation, he could not access medical care, and his bones healed improperly. Thanks to the generosity of Lelt donors, Asrat had reparative surgery last month and will walk again. Read his story here.
