Kalu is 15 years old in 8th grade at Repi Middle School in Kara Kore, Ethiopia. She loves Mathematics and gardening, and wants to be a doctor when she grows up.

Kalu's mother, Abebech, raised 5 children by herself after their father left the family. Through years of acute poverty, Abebech struggled to feed her children through her skills in weaving. Now Kalu, the youngest, is her mother's hope to be the first college student in her family's history. You can help her meet this goal! If Kalu is sponsored for $35/month, she will receive daily meals and after school tutoring. If her family is sponsored for $15 additional a month, they will all receive monthly food rations and medical care, and her mother will receive priority to enroll in our Family Business Program, where she will be empowered to start her own small business.
