Desta is 7 years old in 1st grade at Hidase Primary School in Kara Kore, Ethiopia. Her favorite school subject is Language Arts, and wants to be in the army when she grows up.

Desta's parents were farmers, but they became sick with a chronic disease and passed away when she was 2 years old. Desta's older brother now raises her, but he has 2 small children and makes a very low wage as a day laborer. Desta was only allowed to go to Kindergarten because they found a used uniform that she could wear for the year. This family is in economic crisis and is in need of a sponsor. If Desta is sponsored for $35/month, she will receive daily meals and after school tutoring. If her family is sponsored for $15 additional a month, they will all receive monthly food rations and medical care, and her brother will receive priority to enroll in our Family Business Program, where he will be empowered to start his own small business.
